Lend A Paw Program
Our goal is to provide rescued dogs from the shelters and train them to
be companion therapy dogs for individuals and families. As certified
therapy dogs, they will also visit schools, and nursing homes and
hospitals to provide healing for their patients.
Dogs are hand selected from local shelters after passing a preliminary
temperament test. Upon completion of the initial three-week training and
evaluation, the dogs that show a suitable personality, unique
characteristics and an eagerness to work will be placed in our Lend A
Paw Program. Upon acceptance into the program, these elite dogs will
continue through an intensive six-week obedience course that includes
socialization with strangers and other domestic animals, and becoming
comfortable with a variety of sensory stimulus. They will then be tested
for the Canine Good Citizenship (CGC) certificate.
These wonderful dogs are available for adoption to those interested in a
trained, socialized animal companion and that are committed to continue
the certification training and provide the dog for therapy at various
venues. Our Lend A Paw trainers will assist the adoptive family with
training sessions for an easy transition.
